Every year on 18 July, we honour the life and legacy of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a global icon who dedicated 67 years to fighting for freedom, justice, and equality.

This year’s Mandela Day theme encourages real action – building relationships, learning from communities and creating lasting impact.
As IMATU, we are proud to roll up our sleeves and get involved across all our Regions. From safe houses to schools, orphanages to shelters. We are showing up to make a real difference!
Here’s how each IMATU Region is giving back in 2025:
City of Cape Town & Western Cape
- Monetary donation to Fikelela Children’s Centre in Khayelitsha aimed to support abandoned and vulnerable children with safe housing, nutrition, and education.
eThekwini
- Groceries, stationery and educational supplies donated to Gozolo Centre for abandoned vulnerable children in KwaMashu and lunch provided to children and staff.
KwaZulu-Natal
- Painting project at Sizani Combined School in KwaDakuza, bringing colour and care to young learners’ spaces.
Gauteng
- Monetary donation to A Re Ageng Social Services, supporting women and children affected by abuse in Rand West.
Tshwane & Limpopo
- Delivery of beds with mattresses to Tshwaraleng House in Mamelodi, which is a safehouse for orphans.
- Serving soup and bread to residents and caregivers.
Eastern Cape
- Groceries delivered to Home of Joy Orphanage in Qheberha, supporting children in need.
Johannesburg & Mpumalanga
- Non-perishable food donations to Othandweni Family Care Centre (Soweto) and Sisters of Hope (Maraisburg).
National Office
- 100 school chairs and 40 desks donated to Kaalfontein Primary School, investing in education and dignity.
