IMATU PARTICIPATES IN COGTA STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
The Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (IMATU) participated in the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Stakeholder Engagement in Boksburg today.
“We were encouraged by COGTA Minister Richard Baloyi’s commitment to instituting good financial governance, improved service delivery and heightening the fight against corruption,” stated IMATU General Secretary, Johan Koen.
The purpose of this national engagement was to exchange views towards shaping and accelerating the implementation of the Local Government Turnaround Strategy (LGTAS) to restore community confidence and improve performance in local governance. IMATU actively participated in the following key discussion areas; accelerating service delivery, promoting good governance, enhancing sound financial management, rolling out infrastructure development and fighting corruption.
“The theme of this engagement, Together Building Better Communities, is a good summary of what IMATU believes we need to do to ensure an efficient and sustainable local government for all. The relevant stakeholders from Government, Organised Labour and Business must work together to ensure a well-run, efficient and sustainable local government for our communities,” explained Koen.
IMATU remains committed to working towards achieving an efficient and sustainable service delivery model at local government level, however the commitment of our members on the ground must be matched by decisive implementation and political will at the top.
