SALARY AND WAGE INCREASE 2017-2018
The salary increase for 2017-2018 will be made up of the average CPI for the period February 2016 until January 2017, plus 1%.
The CPI figures for this period have become available and are as follows:
Feb 2016 – 7.0%
Mar 2016 – 6.3%
April 2016 – 6.2%
May 2016 – 6.1%
June 2016 – 6.3%
July 2016 – 6.0%
Aug 2016 – 5.9%
Sept 2016 – 6.1%
Oct 2016 – 6.4%
Nov 2016 – 6.6%
Dec 2016 – 6.8%
Jan 2017 – 6.6%
Average CPI – 6.36%
Therefore, the salary increase, effective from 1 July 2017, will be 7.36%.
All benefits and conditions of service linked to salaries also increase by 7.36%.
The housing allowance increases to R796.61.
The maximum medical aid contribution increases to R3 942.22.
The minimum wage increases to R6 845.09.
Please note that these figures are based on IMATU’s own calculations and are not yet official. The SALGBC will confirm the official increases by means of a national circular later this year.
